Mobile Units
Health Care on the Move to Those in Need.
We are funding several mobile medical clinics that provide health care to underserved and at-risk populations in Maryland and the National Capital Area.
Typical of the many mobile units supported by a $500,000 CareFirst grant, is the Care-A-Van operated by Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. A co-operative venture with Baltimore Health Care Access, the Care-A-Van mobile clinic delivers on-the-spot patient services in five different locations every week.
A Doctor’s Office on Wheels
The van is a doctor’s office in miniature – on wheels – that delivers:
- A consultation area
- Two examination rooms
- A television display area showing health-related educational videos.
The van offers routine medical examinations, vaccinations, STD screenings and treatment for conditions such as asthma, hypertension and diabetes.
The mobile units provide care to those without a medical home and help visitors access other community-based social service agencies.
